Shaftsbury farmer runs for U.S. Senate

A Shaftsbury farmer, who said he was forced to leave the Air Force in 1999 when he came out as gay, has announced week he is running for the U.S. Senate as an independent.@DBody:

Brad Peacock, 37, works from the Clear Brook Farms off of Route 7A in Shaftsbury where he manages the operation and grows vegetables, but is also a regular presence at the farmers market in Londonderry.

A life in agriculture has shaped many of his views, but he also cites growing up poor as for helping him appreciate the necessary assistance that can be provided by the government.

Peacock said he’s not running because he’s unhappy with Vermont’s senators, Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders. Instead, he said he’s been concerned about what he’s seeing from Washington, D.C., after the election of Donald Trump.
